Quartz, Marketplace Launch Season Two Of Podcast 'Actuality'

Quartz and Marketplace have teamed up again to produce Season Two of the podcast “Actuality.” This season’s theme is called “They said it couldn’t be done,” featuring the people and companies working to change the global economy.

According to a statement, “Actuality” is a “deeper dive into the best stories published by Quartz and broadcast by Marketplace.”

“Actuality” is hosted by Tim Fernholz and Sabri Ben-Achour. The first episode, released today, looks at whether software can have “taste” in music. Fernholz and Ben-Achour visit Spotify to talk about the music streaming service's preference technology.

Quartz and Marketplace are aiming to engage listeners by encouraging interaction. Fernholz and Ben-Achour challenged listeners to help make a playlist about this season's theme.

Advertisements for “Actuality” are read by the hosts, with the brand's content refined to fit the voice of the program, Quartz Director of Communications Emily Passer told Publishers Daily via email.

“Actuality” is for listeners interested in how the new global economy works, Fernholz added, which are the same kind of people who read Quartz and listen to Marketplace.

The podcast is available on iTunes or an XML feed and can be subscribed to with listeners’ favorite podcast app.

Future episodes will feature Fernholz and Ben-Achour talking to entrepreneurs racing to launch satellites, meeting scientists trying to crack the atomic code and produce unlimited clean energy and discover how managers are using the power of digital surveillance to learn how their workers’ minds work, according to the statement.

A new episode will come out every two weeks.
