'Vogue' Bows New App With Met Gala

Vogue has launched a new app that will keep users at the cutting edge of all things glamorous and beautiful, the high-end fashion title announced this week. The Vogue app, currently available for free download for iPhone, was designed by the publisher in collaboration with digital design agency Oven Bits.

The Vogue app promises to keep users up to date in areas spanning fashion, beauty, runway and celebrity style, homes, weddings, food, travel, and entertainment, among other subjects. The format is heavily visual, emphasizing photos and video, and also allows users to read sections from Vogue.com and Vogue’s print edition.

Users can choose to set alerts for new stories, save stories they would like to read later offline and share favorite stories and photos via email and social media.

The new app is kicking off with a special feature on the 2016 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual fundraising event, the Met Gala, a star-studded affair organized by Vogue’s iconic editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

This year’s gala is scheduled for May 2, 2016 at the institution; last year’s gala was the subject of a well-received documentary, “The First Monday In May.” The event’s red carpet is a perennial favorite of fashion and celebrity junkies.

Fashion publishing has seen plenty of activity this spring.

Last month, Time Inc. announced plans to combine xoJane, xoVain, Mimi and The Outfit under the newly formed InStyle Collection to beef up InStyle’s digital presence. InStyle editorial director Ariel Foxman, publisher Patrick Connors and general manager of digital Pam Abbott oversee the new group.

Also, Linda Wells, the founder of Condé Nast’s Allure, signed on with Hearst to produce beauty content for its magazines. Wells will create a 12-to-16 page beauty report that will run inside subscriber copies of the September issues of Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire and Town & Country.
