Conde Nast Taps Lumsden As 'Scene' Digital Director, Focuses On Video, Original Programming

Condé Nast Entertainment (CNÉ) has appointed Lauren Lumsden, the former video programming director of Cosmopolitan.com, as the digital director of The Scene, the company’s mobile-first social video platform.

In her new role, Lumsden will develop The Scene’s editorial voice and manage its strategic content and product strategy across all platforms, including Web, mobile and OTT.

She will also oversee all video development, production and programming for The Scene, including two recently announced incubator series with Indigenous Media.

“My top priority for the first few months will be to develop a distinct voice/feel for the brand,” Lumsden told Publishers Daily. “This will involve three things: understanding what is already resonating with the audience; curating video content from Condé Nast's preeminent media portfolio; and -- the most exciting part -- creating original programming.”

Lumsden said video continues to be consumers’ preferred medium, especially on mobile, and that she hopes to make The Scene’s app, Web site, email newsletter and social platforms a “daily destination.”

“I want to create a brand that showcases incredible videos, from tutorials to impactful, short-form documentaries, by both rising star and established talents,” she said.

Lumsden will report to a new head of digital video content for CNÉ, who will be named shortly. She also reports to Joy Marcus, executive vice-president and general manager of digital video for CNÉ.

Prior to Cosmopolitan, Lumsden spent nearly eight years at DailyCandy, where she started the NBCUniversal-owned company's first video initiative.
