Bloomberg's Content Service Plans To Triple Number Of Spanish-Language News Stories

Bloomberg’s Content Service is expanding its Spanish-language text news licensing offering, with plans to more than triple its offering of translated Bloomberg news stories to produce over 80 stories per day.

The announcement was made at the 68th annual WAN-IFRA World News Media Congress, held in Cartagena, Colombia.

The expanded service will include output from bureaus in Bogota, Buenos Aires, Caracas, Lima, Madrid, Mexico City and Santiago. Breaking news, analysis, commentary and exclusive feature pieces will be available to News licensing customers and subscribers of the Bloomberg Professional service, also called the Bloomberg Terminal, which provides data, news and analysis for business and financial professionals.

"The demand for news in Spanish is growing," stated Josh Rucci, general manager and global head of Bloomberg's Content Service. He added: "This expansion is an important part of our strategy in extending reach to the growing Spanish-speaking business community around the world.” Rucci said experienced translators are working with reporters in Bloomberg News’ network of bureaus throughout Latin America and Spain to translate content.

According to Dylan Cohen, head of operations/product for Bloomberg’s Content Service, the service has long offered Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, German and Russian news services specifically for the Bloomberg Terminal. A portion of those translations were available to Bloomberg Content service clients. This announcement is the first time the service has expanded one of its translation offerings for media clients.

Cohen told Publishers Daily that the service has already more than doubled its Spanish-translated Bloomberg news stories and will complete its expansion within the next few months.

Last year, Bloomberg's Content Service launched Bloomberg TV Canada, bringing business and financial TV to more than 7 million Canadian households. According to Talking News Biz, the service also signed group licensing deals with Hearst Newspapers and American City Business Journals and the McClatchy Co.
