AOL Promotes Tim Mahlman To President, AOL Platforms

AOL on Wednesday promoted Tim Mahlman to president, AOL Platforms, where he will lead the charge in evolving AOL's products and technology stack. Mahlman, who replaces Bob Lord, will report directly to AOL CEO Tim Armstrong.

In his new role, Mahlman will head a global team of 1,400 engineers and product developers as well as sales and client service leads.  Over the last six years, AOL has invested over $1 billion in its technology stack through acquisitions and organic development. Its goal is to develop and grow ad products that reach consumers across desktop, mobile and TV through an assortment of video and live experiences, programmatic buying, and performance-driven campaigns.

“With AOL’s data-driven technology foundation -- for both advertisers and publishers -- well-established in the market, we’re now focused on accelerating its development. My background in tech, advertising, and publishing puts me in a unique position to steer and manage those efforts,” Mahlman told Real-Time Daily via email.

Mahlman most recently served as global head of AOL’s publisher technology platform and brings 20 years of technology and advertising experience to his new role. He was the founder of Vidible, a video content exchange platform, which was acquired by AOL in 2014 and is now part of ONE by AOL: Publishers. He was also entrepreneur in residence with Greycroft Ventures, portfolio companies in the ad and tech space. Prior to Greycroft, Mahlman served as VP of network sales at Yahoo.

The AOL Platforms team also named Matt Gillis SVP, publisher platforms, and Jay Seideman, SVP, advertising platforms. Both will report directly to Mahlman.
