Facebook's Earnings Report

Facebook released its second quarter earnings report this week, revealing that the company now has a host of new monthly active users, and proving once again that the social network does audience engagement better than just about everyone else.

Here’s a quick rundown of the pertinent facts and figures:

-- 1.71 billion monthly active users, up 15% from last year.

-- 1.57 billion mobile users, up 20% from last year.

-- 1.13 billion daily active users, up 16% from last year.

-- and 1.03 billion daily active mobile users, a 22% increase from last year.

About two-thirds of Facebook’s total base uses the site daily both on desktop and mobile. Having more than a billion daily active mobile users is a big milestone for the social network, especially when you consider that 84% of the company’s ad revenue comes from mobile—but that number also includes a bevvy of mobile products like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.

Facebook’s domination of mobile users and its massive and rich dataset means that any company worth its salt that wants any kind of mobile strategy needs to incorporate Facebook in some way.

The company is also seeing 2 billion searches on its platform daily, but hasn’t monetized those searches in any kind of aggressive way yet.

Facebook has also accumulated $23 billion in cash for any acquisitions we may see in the future, as it continues to diversify its products.
