Jane Spencer has been hired as deputy editor of strategy. David Taylor has been promoted to deputy editor of news. Both will report to Lee Glendinning, editor of Guardian US.
Spencer will join Guardian US on Aug. 15 and will “spearhead cutting-edge projects and drive innovation across the newsroom, with a particular focus on mobile and video,” per a statement. She plans to use :the most exciting tools of digital journalism" to tell meaningful stories.
Spencer previously worked at Fusion as editor-in-chief, as well as digital and senior vice president of emerging platforms. She has also served as executive editor and managing editor of TheDaily Beast.

Taylor has been at Guardian US since Sept. 2015 as head of news and is leading the Guardian’s coverage of the 2016 election. He previously held the role of head of news at the Times of London.
Taylor stated that with “a lot at stake” in this election year, “there has never been a more consequential time to report with rigour and nuance.”
In February, The Guardian launched "The Minute” a mobile-first, daily update of campaign trail news.
According to ComScore, Guardian US raked in 41.8 million unique browsers in June 2016, up 33% from the same time last year.
