At Time Inc., Bean led the launch strategy for new digital brands, including The Drive and Extra Crispy. He was also instrumental in the creation of The Foundry, the company’s creative lab and content studio.

This isn't Bean's first experience at Rodale. He worked at Men's Health as an associate editor in 2004 and moved up to articles editor and eventually VP of digital product development in 2012.

Bean said in a statement that Men’s Health will “expand aggressively onto new platforms” going forward.

Bean succeeds Bill Phillips, who left the company in June after a string of departures and layoffs, following the appointment of new editorial director Michael Lafavore. Executive editor Bill Stump was the interim editor-in-chief while the company searched for a more permanent replacement.

Previously, Bean served as editor-in-chief of Entertainment Weekly and managing editor of Sports Illustrated Digital.
