TCM Debuts VOD FilmStruck Service

Turner announced today it will debut FilmStruck -- its subscription video-on-demand service streaming contemporary and classic art house, indie, foreign and cult films -- on Oct. 19 for a $6.99 monthly fee.

The service was developed and will be managed by Turner Classic Movies (TCM) in collaboration with the Criterion Collection. Both are known for adding context to classic films.

The continually refreshed library will feature extensive bonus content, filmmaker interviews and rare footage.

FilmStruck will be available exclusively on Web, Amazon Fire TV, iOS and Android devices at launch. It will also run on Apple TV and other platforms and devices in the coming months.

On Nov. 11, the service will expand with a premium add-on tier, The Criterion Channel,  which will become the exclusive streaming home to the Criterion Collection library of films.

A FilmStruck + The Criterion Channel Subscription will be $10.99/month and $99 a year.

Coleman Breland, president of Turner Content Distribution and TCM, stated that the company had "identified a strategic way to move into the direct-to-consumer business by creating an over-the-top offering that was additive to the TV landscape."

He added that the programming wasn't readily available in the streaming marketplace and "differentiated from what TCM already offers."
