Woven Digital Lays Off Almost 20 Employees, Most From HitFix

Woven Digital has laid off around 20 employees, mostly from its entertainment news site HitFix, which it acquired in April.

A spokesman told Ad Age the HitFix staffers were let go as their roles overlapped with staffers at Uproxx, another one of Woven’s brands. Woven employees in sales, editorial, management and technology were also downsized.

The spokesman added that the company recently hired three new employees.

"This is a very normal part of scaling up and scaling down a business," he said.

This summer, Woven Digital raised $18.5 million in a series B funding round. At the time, The Wall Street Journal reported Woven planned to use the investment to fund more video production and launch more content verticals.

Woven's portfolio of brands brought in 36.2 million multiplatform unique U.S. visitors in August, an 8% year-over-year decline, according to ComScore data.
