Washington Court Says Private Email Used for Public Business Subject to Public Records Requests

A Washington State court has ruled that public officials that conduct official business via personal email are subject to public records requests of their personal inboxes. The decision comes after Washington councilman Steve Vermillion ran a personal website and account and claimed that these emails were not subject to the law. A lawsuit stemmed from the denial of the records request resulted in this lawsuit. After being passed around by several courts the decision is that the inbox is subject to public records requests.
