WPP’s Grey Group, has acquired Tank, a Montreal-based independent agency that focuses on healthcare. Terms weren’t disclosed, but Grey said it planned to expand the agency’s operations to the U.S., Europe and Asia starting next year.

Tank will retain its name and become part of Grey Group Canada which already operates in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal.

Marc Lanouette, President of Tank, will become CEO of Grey Group Canada. He succeeds Stephanie Nerlich who left the company earlier this year for a position at MDC Partners.

Michael Houston, Global President and CEO of Grey North America, stated, “This acquisition reinforces our longstanding commitment to expand our capabilities and critical mass in the Canadian market, especially in Quebec, as well as in the important healthcare sector.”

Houston continued, “Marc Lanouette, who takes the helm of Grey Group Canada, has built a premier healthcare agency serving blue-chip clients with world-class strategic and creative brand-building expertise.”

Tank with healthcare and consumer divisions, was founded in 2007.  Tank's fiscal 2016 net revenues were approximately $10.5 million. The company employs 120 people at its two offices in Montreal.  Its client roster includes AbbVie, BMS, Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Lundbeck, Telus Health, Department of Canadian Heritage and Caisse de depot.

Grey said that Tank’s key management will continue to oversee the agency.

Lanouette stated,  “We will accelerate the growth of Grey Canada and export Tank’s unique healthcare marketing model worldwide in the years to come.”
