TechDirt publisher Mike Masnick has responded to a $15 million lawsuit filed against his site by the self-described inventor of email Shiva Ayyadurai, who is suing the site for defamation. In a blog post on his site, Masnick said that email existed long before Ayyadurai created an email-related software program, and said he plans to fight the suit. "So, in our view, this is not a fight about who invented email," he wrote in the post. "This is a fight about whether or not our legal system will silence independent publications for publishing opinions that public figures do not like."
