Guardian U.S. Names Webster Interim CEO

Guardian News & Media has named Evelyn Webster interim CEO of Guardian US. She is replacing Eamonn Store, who is leaving after three years.

Webster most recently served as executive vice president of Time Inc. The Guardian stated it is searching for a permanent CEO.

The 5-year-old U.S. division of the British daily newspaper has struggled to break even, due to low ad sales and revenue projections.

The company added it “continues to focus on rebalancing its core business model to ensure it is able to serve its loyal and growing readership.”

In her new temporary role, Webster will work closely with Lee Glendinning, the editor of Guardian US, on the “ongoing transformation of our U.S. operations and our continued focus on maximizing the enormous opportunities for Guardian journalism in the U.S. market,” stated David Pemsel, CEO of Guardian Media Group.

Last fall, Guardian US began cutting staff to make up for a revenue shortfall of $4.4 million.

A source told Politico's "Morning Media" at the time that The Guardian US plans to cut about 50 jobs from the 150-person organization.

Store stated he was leaving to “help senior corporate leaders drive stronger corporate citizenship by developing deeper, more enduring cause related partnerships with those dedicated to doing good in this world.”
