The Community Opens Office In London

Miami-based cross-cultural agency the community has opened shop in London. The Publicis Group-owned shop launches with a small group of clients, including Tesco Mobile and Britain's Beer Alliance.

The office opens with 12 people led by executive creative director Mark Hunter, formerly of SapientNitro, which acquired the community in 2014 for an estimated $40-plus million.

The agency expects to hire another eight people by this summer, including a managing director and a strategy lead. Prior to SapientNitro, Hunter was a partner and chief creative officer at Deutsch LA. He also toiled at TBWA\London and Havas London.

Expanding to London allows the agency to deliver its brand of creative to a new, complex multicultural market, according to the agency.  And the move comes as brands around the globe are rethinking how to approach consumer culture and identity.

“The community’s expansion into London isn’t just the product of growth, it’s the product of something bigger,” said Joaquin Mollá, co-founder and chief creative officer, the community. “ [Co-founder] José [Mollá ] and I have respected the work from the UK our entire career and admired how involved clients are in making great ideas come to life. It’s a dream come true to open in London and be a part of that dynamic.”

After SapientNitro acquired the shop the community was fully integrated into its parent company but retained its separate branding. It still operates as la comunidad in Buenos Aires. The founders remain in charge of their 100+ employees.

Last year was the agency’s biggest year yet, posting over 50% growth fueled by existing clients and new business wins including General Mills and Verizon.
