Facebook Bows Job Listings, Application Tools

In its never-ending quest to take over literally every aspect of our lives, Facebook is rolling out new tools that will allow employers to post open positions on its platform, and candidates to search for apply for jobs through a single seamless interface, the company revealed in a blog post last week.

The new job marketplace includes a new feature that businesses can include on their own pages, as well as via a new jobs bookmark, which automatically surfaces job openings at nearby businesses.

Business page administrators can use the new functionality to create job postings, track applications, and communicate with applicants. They can also pay to boost job posts in order to reach more people.

Job posts can also appear in users’ News Feeds when they “like” the company’s Facebook page.

When a candidate wants to apply for a job, they can click on an “Apply Now” button that pre-populates a form with the relevant personal information from their Facebook profile.

According to Facebook, the new job marketplace was created with small and mid-sized businesses in mind, including those seeking part-time or shift workers, which should help differentiate it from some of the incumbent players in the space, especially LinkedIn, which has focused more on the white-collar job marketplace.

As the blog post notes, there are already plenty of businesses and employees using Facebook to recruit or find work through the social network’s existing features, so the creation of a dedicated channel merely formalizes a popular function.

The new marketplace is currently available in the U.S. and Canada, for both desktop and mobile users.
