Primedia to Sell Chicago Mag

  • July 31, 2002
Eager to reduce debt, Primedia Inc. announced Wednesday it will sell Chicago magazine to the Chicago Tribune Co. for $35 million cash. It’s part of Primedia’s plans to sell $250 million of its non-core assets. The company is $30 million away from its goal, according to the company. Primedia publishes more than 250 magazines, including Automobile, Motor Trend, New York, Fly Fisherman, American Baby and American Demographics. It bought Chicago magazine for $9 million in May 1995. “Chicago is a great publication, but one that had shown few real ties to the rest of our Consumer Magazine and Media Group’s strategy,” said Chairman/CEO Tom Rogers. Chicago, founded in 1952, covers personalities, businesses, trends, restaurants and other issues in Chicagoland.
