Local Races Generate Democratic Firepower, Trump Raises $13M For Reelection

The Federal Election Commission released first-quarter numbers providing a look at post-election fundraising in 2017.

Highlights include President Trump’s reelection campaign raking in $13.2 million through three committees over the first three months of the year. There are also strong fundraising totals for Senate committees and special House elections.

Heightened interest in local and national politics generated by the 2016 election and a sense of “resistance” within the Democratic Party have kick-started a strong fund-raising quarter, despite being an off-election year.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) also showed fund-raising prowess over the first three months of 2017, raising $6.5 million in March, giving it a total of $12.5 million on hand.

At the Senatorial level, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) broke off-year records with $7 million raised inMarch, leaving the committee with $13 million cash on hand. In 2017 to date, the NRSC brought in 20,000 new donors.

Most of the Trump reelection monies come from merchandise sold during and around the inauguration.

As for the special elections for the House of Representatives, ad spending in the Georgia 6th District has reached $14 million in total, according to Politico. Jon Ossoff, the 30-year-old Democratic candidate, spent $5.3 million.

Republican committees, including the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and the Congressional Leadership Fund, are spending around $4 million, mostly attacking Ossoff.
