In a move sure to make Apple’s blood boil, Samsung has agreed to set Google Play Music as the default music player on all new phones and tablets.

Starting with the Galaxy S8 and S8+ -- which just made their domestic debut -- the South Korean tech giant will also be inviting users to upload as many as 100,000 songs to Google Play Music… for free.

Sweetening the deal, new Samsung phones and tablets will come with a free three-month trial of Google Play Music.

The deal is so big, in fact, that it’s spilling over into other Google services, according to Elias Roman, lead product manager at Google Play Music.

Along with Google Play Music, new gadgets will also get access to YouTube Red, or at least in regions where the premium video service is presently available, Roman notes in a new blog post.

“Just like our integration with the Assistant on Google Home, Google Play Music will work with Bixby, Samsung’s new intelligent interface,” per Roman.

Google Play Music currently boasts about 40 million songs.

Among other efforts, Apple is reportedly planning a big push into original content to boost its ‘Music’ service. Despite its name, the $10-a-month service already carries some video, including artist documentaries.

With the help of experienced producers, Samsung reportedly wants to start making movies and TV shows, according to recent press reports.

Sources recently told The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news, that Apple hopes to begin offering scripted content before the end of the year.

Less than two years after its launch, Apple Music has officially surpassed 20 million paid subscribers. As of last fall, however, Spotify had already surpassed 40 million paid subscribers.
