Wenner Media Shuffles Executive Posts

Wenner Media has promoted Michael Provus, Chief Revenue Officer of Rolling Stone, to the same title across the parent company, one of many changes to its sales and marketing team. It is as an effort to collaborate across all of Wenner Media’s brands.

“This will enable further growth of the company and provide additional opportunities for advertisers,” said Gus Wenner, head of Wenner Media’s digital operations.

Provus will oversee advertising sales and marketing teams at Rolling Stone, Men’s Journal and gaming site Glixel, Wenner Media’s newest venture, which launched last November.

Jay Gallagher, Men’s Journal Chief Revenue Officer, has been named head of sales of Wenner Media.

Matt Habib, Rolling Stone’s executive director of digital advertising, has been named head of digital sales of Wenner Media. Kerri Mackar, Rolling Stone’s head of marketing, has been named head of marketing of Wenner Media.

Wenner Media claims Rolling Stone and Men’s Journal attract a total print and digital audience of nearly 35 million.

The publisher sold Us Weekly to American Media Inc., which owns tabloids Star and OK!, in March.

In April, Rolling Stone, Wenner Media and writer Sabrina Rubin Erdely agreed to settle a defamation lawsuit brought by University of Virginia administrator Nicole Eramo over a debunked 2014 article published in the pop culture magazine, “A Rape On Campus,” about an alleged assault at a fraternity.

Rolling Stone still faces a $25 million lawsuit from the Phi Kappa Psi chapter of the University of Virginia.

Separately, Condé Nast has hired Jonathan Schaaf as chief agency officer. He will oversee agency and advertising sales at the publishing house. Schaaf begins his new role at the end of this month and will report to Lisa Valentino, Chief Revenue Officer of industry and agency for Condé Nast.

Schaaf was previously president of enterprise partnerships for Omnicom Media Group.
