The ABA Says Lawyers Should Use Encrypted Email

The ABA ethics committed has altered an 18-year advisory that said attorneys could use unencrypted email when communicating with clients.  "[C]yber-threats and the proliferation of electronic communications devices have changed the landscape and it is not always reasonable to rely on the use of unencrypted email,” the committee said in a May 11 opinion that updated guidance issued in 1999, before the spread of smartphones and cloud-based data storage systems,” Bloomberg reported.
