Newsweek Media Group Brings Events Division To The U.S.

This fall, the Newsweek Events business debuts in the U.S. with three events.

Dev Pragad, CEO of Newsweek Media Group, told Publishers Daily the expansion is due to a “strong demand for our content, as well as a strong readership presence here that we plan to grow.”

The company intends to expand its events business to Asia next, per Pragad.

Newsweek Events was created back in February to host conferences and events focused on finance, science, technology and sustainability. Its AI & Data Science in Capital Markets Conference held in London this spring attracted more than 400 attendees.

Newsweek Media Group felt it was time to take on the U.S. market, due to C-suite decision makers' need for "deeper, more relevant and provocative perspectives on business and technology,” Pragad said.

Newsweek Events will bring the AI conference to New York this December.

But first, it begins with two events in San Francisco this fall. Structure Security will focus on digital security in September. In November, Structure 2017 will cover cloud computing.

These events “are important next steps in our plans to build a global, scalable events business,” Pragad stated.

Newsweek Events’ initial sponsors include Carbon Black and Alert Logic for the Structure Security conference and Ravenpack, Kinetica, 2iQ, JPMorganChase, Société Générale, Hitachi Data Systems, Dataminr and Continuum Analytics signing on as sponsors for the AI event.

Newsweek Media Group acquired Structure, an events business focused on technology and previously owned by digital media company GigaOm, to help build its events offerings.

Revenue from events helps diversify a publisher's business at a time when print advertising is in decline.

Newsweek Media Group's properties include Newsweek, International Business Times, Design & Trend, Fashion Times, Player. One, Latin Times and Medical Daily.
