ABC Campaign Promotes Thursday Night Hits, New Swift Song

Fueling its efforts to launch another season of its big Thursday night block of dramas, ABC is using a new song from music star Taylor Swift.

“Look What You Made Me Do” is used in a 30-second ABC promo featuring video elements of the three dramas created and produced by Shonda Rhimes: “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal” and “How to Get Away With Murder.”

All three ABC shows employ Swift-connected hashtags -- #LookWhatYouMadeMeDo, #TGITaylor -- for their Twitter platforms, looking to promote social media conversation for the single and Swift’s new album "Reputation."

The initial frame of the promo includes a description of the video, citing Swift and the song’s title. Later in the spot, it touts all three ABC shows and the network’s "Thank God It’s Thursday" campaign -- noting that “TGIT Is Back.”

The spot ends with the promo touting the new season for all three hits, which begins Thursday, September 28. Just a few hours after the promos were released, YouTube noted that the spot had 8,688 views and was growing. It was No. 32 in “trending.”

Swift’s official straight-ahead music video for the song was much further along -- 5.4 million views -- and No. 1 in video trending.
