Eurosport, the Discovery Communications-owned European cable sports channel, has inked a deal with tech company Snap Inc. to produce original content for Snapchat about the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Eurosport has the European cable rights to the Olympics, and the new content will be exclusive to the continent. NBCUniversal has the U.S. Olympics rights, and has formed its own deal with Snap.
Eurosport's “Our Stories" will combine Snaps from users and Eurosport’s professional coverage of the games to create an immersive content and advertising experience, including full-screen graphics and text. “Publisher Stories” will be produced by professional media partners.
Discovery’s European sales team will handle ad sales for the content.
The Eurosport deal follows another Discovery inked with Snap in the U.S. earlier this year to have Discovery create original content for Snapchat, which included a show, "Shark Week on Snapchat," that launched in July.
