GroupM's Pattison Takes On New WPP Transformation Role

GroupM veteran Lindsay Pattison has been appointed Chief Transformation Officer at parent company WPP.

Pattison, the former Maxus CEO, was appointed Chief Transformation Officer at GroupM earlier this year, around the time the company decided to merge Maxus and MEC into a new agency called Wavemaker.

Pattison will retain her duties as head of transformation at GroupM as she expands the role to cover the entire holding company.

Word of the Pattison’s enlarged duties came in a company memo from WPP CEO Martin Sorrell. “In this new role, Lindsay will oversee our 50 global client teams and help to deliver on our core strategic priority of horizontality,” Sorrell wrote.

“As you know, our single most important task is to ensure we provide our clients with a seamlessly integrated offer, as they demand greater simplicity and efficiency from their marketing services partners,” added Sorrell.



“Horizontality will increasingly be reflected in the structure of the Group itself, as well as our client teams, country managers and organic collaboration between our companies. 

"Lindsay will play a key role in that project as we continue down the path of greater integration.”

Pattison had been global CEO of Maxus from 2014 until shifting to the GroupM transformation post in May. Previously, she ran Maxus in the UK and earlier worked for Y&R, PHD Media and Sony Ericsson.

    Will the numerous constituent parts of WPP adopt operating structure changes willingly, or will the be dragged kicking and screaming? I happen to be intinately familiar with process transformation.In virtually all industries, this dramatic change works out according to clear commitment to the change from the top down. Management ranks and staff buy in depends on senior executives making clear this is important. Otherwise, a large geographically dispersed organization tends to wait for the program, and the assigned program team, to wither away over time.
