The Atlantic Hosts 'Drafting Democracy,' Examines Loss Of Public Confidence

At a time when it seems American democracy is being redrafted on-the-fly, The Atlantic is hosting a high-level discussion examining the original drafting of American democracy -- as set forth in our founding documents. It chronicles how it has been impacted by changes in the political sphere, including public confidence in institutions like Congress, the courts and the national news media.

The event, which will be held Thursday evening at the New York Bar Association in midtown Manhattan, features a lineup of speakers including:

  • Preet Bharara, former US Attorney for the Southern District of New York

  • Trevor Potter, President, Campaign Legal Center

  • Jeremy Heimans, Co-founder and CEO, Purpose

  • Alex Wagner, Senior Editor, The Atlantic

  • Randi Weingarten, President, American Federation of Teachers

  • Steve Clemons, Washington Editor at Large, The Atlantic
