After Delay, Amazon Prime Video Added To Apple TV

Amazon’s Prime Video application has debuted on Apple TV devices. The launch has been a long time coming, with Apple CEO Tim Cook first announcing the partnership between the two tech giants at Apple’s developer conference in June.

Amazon had not responded to a request for comment on the cause of the delay, as of publishing.

Amazon had been the most high-profile streaming video service absent from Apple TV devices, and competitors like Netflix and Hulu have long been on the device.

Amazon’s app will be available in over 100 countries, and will be compatible with the Siri voice remote and universal search functions of the Apple TV.

The deal with Apple comes amid friction between Amazon and Google. Google is restricting access to its YouTube video service on Amazon’s Echo Show and FireTV devices, in response to an Amazon decision not to sell Google products like the Chromecast and Nest devices.

“Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube on Echo Show and Fire TV,” Google said in a statement. “We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon.”

“Google is setting a disappointing precedent by selectively blocking customer access to an open website,” a statement from Amazon said.
