Angela Johnson To Head Mcgarrybowen New York

Angela Johnson is departing WPP to join mcgarrybowen as president of the agency's New York operations, effective January 2018.

This appointment now means three mcgarrybowen U.S. offices will be led by women, including Laurel Flatt, president of mcgarrybowen Chicago, and Marianne Besch, managing director and executive creative director of mcgarrybowen San Francisco.

Johnson joins the Denstu-owned shop in a role that has been vacant for more than two years, but agency executives felt it was time for a leadership expansion. With the recent acquisition of digital agency Swirl, Johnson will be tasked with expanding that agency's growth and scope.

She will report to the agency’s  U.S.CEO  Simon Pearce.

Since 2005, Johnson has worked for WPP, where she served in senior leadership roles beginning with Ogilvy London as worldwide managing director on BP Fuels, WWF, Pernod Ricard and Motorola. She then moved to Ogilvy Chicago as worldwide managing director for Kimberly-Clark.

Her most recent role was at the holding-company level with WPP as team director, where she led cross agency initiatives with JWT, Ogilvy, Landor, Burson Marsteller, Mindshare and Geometry.
