Samsung is introducing a new application processor at CES next week, a chip that advances processing speed, artificial intelligence and facial recognition.

The Samsung Exynos 9810 includes neural network-based deep learning and will allow the processor to accurately recognize people or items in photos for quick image searching and categorization, according to Samsung.

The new technology can scan a person’s face in 3D for hybrid face detection via deep sensing. The hybrid approach involves using both hardware and software, which enables realistic face-tracking filters as well as higher security when unlocking a device, such as a smartphone.

The processor keeps security processing separate to safeguard personal data such as fingerprint, facial and iris information.

The chip also promises to provide more immersive multimedia experiences, with a dedicated image processing and upgraded multi-format codec. The end result is expected to be advanced stabilization of images and video and real-time out-of-focus photography in high resolution.

The chip is being officially launched at CES next week, but is already in mass production, according to Samsung.
