Wolfgang Scoops Up Halo Top Ice Cream Brand

Fast-growing Halo Top ice cream brand has appointed Wolfgang as its first AOR following a formal review.

Previously Halo Top worked with Philadelphia-based agency Red Tettemer + Partners.

The Venice Beach, CA-based creative shop is likely to continue the ice cream brand's quirky humor and anti-establishment messaging. Last September, to that end, Halo Top introduced a sci-fi-influenced campaign that’s often been compared to Stanley Kubrick's “2001: A Space Odyssey.”  The ad showed a woman being force-fed ice cream.

The spot avoided traditional TV to instead run in movie theaters and across the brand's social channels. "We do think traditional commercials can be a little bit stale and that people tune out on those a bit,” Halo Top founder and CEO Justin Woolverton told Ad Age at the time. "I think people are just more interested these days in something that's just plain interesting, not something that's too heavily branded."

Halo Top spent $4.2 million on advertising during the first six months of 2017, up significantly from its entire $2.1 million 2016 budget, according to Kantar Media.
