Hyatt Launches 'Why Settle' Spirit Awards

Two Hyatt brands are partnering to host the second annual Spirit Awards contest targeting “Inspiring Innovators,” “Road Warriors” and “24/7 MVPs.” Hyatt has enlisted entrepreneur Bill Rancic to promote the contest on social media.

The two brands, Hyatt Place and Hyatt House, have grown substantially — 42% over the last five years, accounting for more than 50% of Hyatt’s base of executed hotel contracts. The two brands include more than 385 hotels in more than 200 cities worldwide.

The contest aims to honor the "hard-working individuals who never settle when it comes to work or supporting the ones they love." This year, it targets three distinct personas that embody the #WhySettle Spirit. The brands are using a 27-second video to promote the contest on social media.

According to Hyatt, Inspiring Innovators are business travelers who have taken charge of their careers and followed their own passions to pave the way. Road Warriors are business travelers who have traveled so many miles that flight attendants know their names. The 24/7 MVP are business travelers who always manage to make the meeting, make dinner and make it look easy.

The promotion began March 9 and ends March 31. Eligible entrants may enter by logging into Facebook with their personal accounts and then following a link in a designated post on Hyatt Place and Hyatt House Facebook pages to the application.

Entrants must write an essay of no more than 300 words that explains why the nominee personifies the “why settle” spirit. Winners will be announced after judges finish evaluating entries April 6. Three prize winners, one in each category, will be chosen. Winners must be able to travel to New York City on either April 18–19 or April 19–20 (at winner’s discretion) and participate in a conversation and press event on April 19 with a celebrity influencer. The prize for each includes 10 nights at a Hyatt House or Hyatt Place hotel and a trip to New York.

The contest was originally introduced in 2016 during Hyatt’s first-ever, dual-branded integrated marketing campaign, “You’ve Come Too Far to Settle Now.”

The two brands conducted a global survey on the business traveler mindset and will reveal the findings during a launch event at Hyatt House New York/Chelsea in April. Rancic will co-host the event alongside the contest winners.
