DOJ And AT&T Take Merger Fight To Judge

The Justice Department told U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon in Washington, D.C. that AT&T's proposed merger with Time Warner will harm consumers as well as rivals. "Prices will go up. Competition will go down,” DOJ attorney Craig Conrath reportedly said Thursday, during his opening argument. “Consumers will pay hundreds of millions of dollars more for pay TV.”

AT&T's lawyer countered that the landscape has changed thanks to Silicon Valley's entry into online video. The Justice Department is "trying this case as if it were 1980 or 1990, before any of this innovation came along," AT&T's attorney reportedly said.
