MDC Partners Acquires Stake In Digital Agency Instrument

MDC Partners is acquiring a majority partnership stake in digital agency Instrument. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The firm counts among its clients Google, Nike, Levi's, Airbnb, Sonos and Dropbox. “As consumers spend more time immersed in digital experiences, marketers are increasingly looking for design-thinkers, builders and problem-solvers who can deliver innovative solutions and build brand equity,” stated Scott Kauffman, chairman and chief executive officer, MDC Partners.

Founded in 2002, the Portland, OR-based shop has 175 people working as strategists, producers, designers, engineers and content creators to build digital brands, products and experiences.

Per the MDC model, the agency will remain operational under its name and in its office under founders CEO Justin Lewis, chief creative officer JD Hooge and chief operating officer Vince LaVecchia.

This represents the first acquisition of the year for the MDC network. "We mutually had our eyes on each other before we formally engaged in acquisition talks," says an MDC spokesperson.
