Media Stocks Caught In More Wild Stock Market Swings

More wild roller coaster stock-market action over the last few days -- ending with big declines on Friday -- had media-related companies virtually flat for the week.

Many of these wild swings were thanks to Donald Trump's overall economic threats of major tariffs targeted at China.

For the week, Dow Jones U.S. Broadcasting & Entertainment Index was down 0.15% for 1,203.55, while Dow Jones U.S. Media Index sank 0.4% to 810.52. In Friday results, indexes declined 1.4% -- down around 9% from the late January highs.

The bigger Dow Jones Industrial index lost 0.7% to 23,960 over the last five days. On Friday, the index had a sharp decline of 2.34%, or 572 points.

Key digital media companies -- so-called FANG (Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, and Google) stocks -- were hit a bit harder than most on Friday. Facebook was down 1.3% to $157.20, while Amazon lost 3.2% to $1,405.22, Netflix slipped 1.8% to $288.76, and Google (Alphabet), gave up 2.2% to $1,009.95.
