Take Your Child To Work Day: The Adland Version

Several agencies are celebrating the annual Take Your Child To Work Day (which is today) by giving their employees’ daughters and sons insight into the agency world.

Kinetic combines fun with education by balancing sessions about each department of the out-of-home agency’s business, and exactly what it is their parents do all day with "career pictionary" and a scavenger hunt. In the latter, participants will be introduced to trading and negotiation using candy bars.

In addition, between pizza and ice cream parties, the invited guests ages 5-12 will also tour downtown NYC on a double-decker bus. They  will see and learn about different types of OOH signage including viewing themselves as large-scale, dynamic images on a giant digital screen at the Oculus train station/shopping mall.

The agency will also display special OOH Take Your Child to Work Day creative outside its New York headquarters building to welcome the kids and parents participating in the day’s festivities.

MediaCom anticipates a couple dozen young attendees will participate in scheduled events at the agency with a full-day agenda that includes learning how to speak in public, making a vision board, and participating in a marshmallow challenge.

The agency's shout-out card activity aligns with this year's theme around kindness by asking kids to write two thank you notes of appreciation to cafeteria workers, teacher’s aides, school secretaries, bus drivers, janitors, and other staff/helper people who normally receive little recognition and to give it to them the following day at school.

Another Mediacom project will extend the kindness theme beyond Thursday by suggesting kids to engage in random acts of kindness, like donating clothes to a homeless shelter and doing yard work for a neighbor.

This year Barkley's 50 or so guests will include agency employee's children as well as some Big Brothers/ Big Sisters and their charges. The agenda for the day includes everything from milk and donuts in the morning to a #CaptionThis session that will create some social content experts with a do-it-yourself activity as well as the "How to be an Inventor" session where kids will learn how technology and innovation can positively impact the world.

Horizon Media's theme this year is "Find Your Inner Superhero" with a half-day agenda centered around empowerment and success. This year the agency expects about 40 children 7-14 which the agency calls "the next generation of the Horizon Media family."
