Tesla Autopilot Navigation Mistake Led To Fatality

A navigation mistake by autopilot contributed to the death of a Tesla Model X owner in Mountain View, Calif., according to a preliminary report released by the National Transportation Safety Board. The agency says that the driver’s hands were detected on the steering wheel for a total of 34 seconds, on three separate occasions, in the 60 seconds before impact. NTSB also confirms Tesla’s position that the vehicle did not detect the driver’s hands on the steering wheel in the six seconds before the crash.
