Musical.ly To Fold Live.ly Streaming Video Service Into Main App

The music- and lip-sync-focused social video app Musical.ly will shut down its live streaming video service Live.ly, folding its capabilities into its main app.

Live.ly, which launched two years ago, allowed creators to stream live video from from the app, similar to apps like Periscope. That capability will be added to Musical.ly in short order, according to Variety.

Musical.ly's main focus is on allowing users to create shareable videos of them lip-syncing to popular songs. It has quietly become a popular social video app, with more than 200 million users. It was acquired for more than $1 billion last year by Chinese media giant Bytedance.
