Bonnier Taps Moore For New Executive Events Post

Bonnier Corp. has created a new position to lead its push into events, tapping Jonathan Moore, former president of Family Media, to take on the role as senior vice president of events.

Bonnier, which publishes titles like Popular Science, Saveur and Field & Stream, among others, has more than 100 yearly events, around the outdoor, marine, and power-sports industries, as well as consumer and trade functions.

Moore will work to expand Bonnier Corp.’s events business.

Over 10% of Bonnier's total revenues come from its events business unit, according to Eric Zinczenko, CEO of Bonnier. Zinczenko said the company has found events to be a “high margin businesses not reliant on advertising as some of our other assets tied directly to media. Our events portfolio has been a significant driver to our diversification strategy.

"Simply put, our goal is to grow this division where it is contributing 20% to 30% of our company's total revenue. Our strategic plan is to add more events and audience scale through organic growth and acquisition,” he told Publishers Daily.

He said Moore will bring “the necessary industry experience we need to amplify our strategic plans to create asset value around our event ambitions.”

In 2016, Bonnier acquired the Sands Sports Super Show in Costa Mesa, California. In a year, revenue from the event grew 43%.

Moore has served as president of Family Media since 2016. Before that, he was the managing director of Mining Indaba, part of EuroMoney Institutional Investor, where he developed mining investment events around the world.

He has also worked as the senior vice president-managing director at Summit Professional Networks, where he oversaw 15 conferences, awards programs and professional training. He grew revenue by 85% in that role.

Moore managed over 40 events when he was senior director of conferences and exhibits at Source Media.
