CNN Reorganizes Business Coverage Under New Site

CNN is reorganizing its business coverage this fall under a new site, called CNN Business. It will house CNN’s existing business verticals: CNN Money, CNN Tech and CNN Media.

CNN Business will be led by producer Jason Farkas, according to Bloomberg, which first reported the news.

CNN also plans to hire about a half dozen journalists to cover technology. The team will work from a new office in San Francisco and cover Silicon Valley companies like Apple, Facebook and Google.

The company will also soon unveil a streaming video service focused on business and technology.

Richard Quest’s weekly online financial show “Markets Now” will be one of the first shows on the service, Farkas told Bloomberg.

The changes to CNN’s business coverage are some of the first since AT&T acquired its parent Time Warner Inc. last month for $85.4 billion. CNN Digital missed revenue targets in 2017 and slimmed down its staff earlier this year.

The new CNN Business name will signal to readers and advertisers alike that the site houses more than financial news.

CNN launched CNN Travel and CNN Tech last summer to produce more content around specific categories, rather than breaking news. In March, CNN senior reporter Dylan Byers debuted a newsletter called "Pacific" to cover the intersection of technology, business, pop culture and politics.
