Vice Studios, RYOT To Launch Documentary Production Fund

Further solidifying its place in the documentary world, Vice Studios announced a partnership with RYOT, Oath’s entertainment studio, that will allow the studios to create a multimillion dollar documentary production fund.

Vice Studios and RYOT will co-produce and co-finance each of the feature length documentaries to be produced over the new two years with international distribution. The first will be announced this fall and premiere in 2019.

Releases will be theatrical, on demand and video.

The fund will support works created by veteran filmmakers and emerging voices from a diverse range of communities and backgrounds, reflected in the work.

Heading the new venture are Hayley Pappas, Head of RYOT Films, Bryn Mooser, CEO-cofounder of RYOT, and Danny Gabai, executive creative director for Vice Studios.

RYOT’s films have been nominated for Academy Awards and won Emmys. Its work, ranging from film to television to immersive projects, has been featured at Sundance, Tribeca and SXSW; its films are available on various sites, including HBO, Showtime, Netflix and National Geographic.

Vice Studios has offices in the U.S., UK and Canada. Launched in 2017 as an offshoot of the Vice Media brand, Vice Studios’ work has received Peabody Awards, British Journalism Awards and Cannes Lions, among others. Its work has been screened at the Venice International Film Festival and Sundance.

“With VICE, RYOT has an equally fearless partner — willing to poke at uncomfortable topics, take risks on atypical projects, and empower visionary filmmakers," stated Pappas. She added the fund was an opportunity to “drive real conversations.”
