GOP Sends Quick Email Blast After News Of Cohen Plea Deal

The GOP email machine seems to be operating in almost real-time.

As news broke that lawyer Michael Cohen had reached a deal with federal prosecutors, the Republican National Committee got out an email blast focusing on alleged Democratic scandals.

The email, dated August 21, is headlined: “Dems Dogged By Their Scandalous Summer,” and features the logo “RNC Research Brief, “according to an image posted by Mediaite, which first reported on the email.

The email points to scandals such as the alleged use by Senator Claire McCaskill’s (D-MO) of a private jet on an RV tour.

The so-called laundry list, which is featured on the website GOP.com, also charges that McCaskill's husband, Joseph Shepard, invested in a Cayman Island-linked hedge fund and “invested millions in questionable tax breaks.”

“Across the country, Democrat Senate candidates are stumbling into the final months of their campaigns after a summer filled with detrimental stories on ethical concerns, scandals, and fact checks,” says the copy on the GOP website.

In addition, the RNC states: “Earlier this month, Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) got way over his skis when he claimed Russian operatives had infiltrated Florida's voter registration systems; recent reporting seems to confirm he was likely lying.”

Cohen pleaded guilty on Tuesday to tax evasion, bank fraud and breaking campaign finance laws.
