The free streaming video service Xumo has named Dan Lloyd head of engineering.

Lloyd was most recently vice president, engineering at the virtual multichannel video provider Sling TV, where he led a team of more than 100 people. Before Sling, he held roles at Xerox and Entrata.

At Xumo Lloyd will be tasked with leading the company’s engineering and technology operations, supporting the company’s data management, advertising and streaming video library.

Xumo is a free, ad-supported streaming video service that collects programming from partners, like CBS, Endemol Shine and the PGA, and turns it into a live, linear stream of video, allowing for a lean-back video experience. Most free streaming services are focusing on an on-demand model.

The company has picked up market share by getting itself baked into smart TVs and other streaming devices.
