Live TV is still the preferred method for TV viewing by students on campus -- mostly on laptops/desktop computers.
Comcast Corp.’s TV research -- associated with its Xfinity on Campus, a pay TV service -- says that from January through June 2018, 44% of all students' TV viewing came from live TV when looking at total video consumption; 37% from video-on-demand; and 19% from DVR machines.
The biggest viewing days of the week are Sundays and Thursdays, and Saturdays have the least. The most-viewed time periods are between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
Preferred TV screens aren’t the biggest or the smallest platforms. Comcast says twice as much consumption happens on laptop/desktop computers versus mobile devices.
The most-viewed live TV programming is sports. The top 10 most-watched programs include the NBA and NFL playoffs, the Winter Olympics, the Super Bowl, and the NCAA basketball tournament.

The most viewed live non-sports programming includes: “This is Us,”’ “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Bachelor,” “Jersey Shore: Family Vacation,” “Riverdale,” “The Good Doctor” and “Keeping up with the Kardashians.”
Comcast’s Xfinity campus service provides live and on-demand programming from more than 100 broadcast, cable and premium channels, available at more than 130 U.S. schools.
