Travel + Leisure has launched a monthly food and travel series for Instagram TV called “Locals.” It is the first IGTV series from the Meredith Corp. travel magazine brand.
The first episode, “Eat Ramen Like a Local,” is available today on IGTV. It runs about six minutes long.
Each episode focuses on one destination through the eyes of a local, who guides the audience with their personal connection to the area.
“Whether you’re an active traveler or simply wish to experience the best a location has to offer through the eyes of a resident, 'Locals' will reveal the true, authentic appeal of these amazing places,” stated Litty Flynn, lifestyle executive producer, Meredith.
In the first episode of “Locals,” the founders of Ramen Beast, an English-language guide and app, take viewers through Japan, showing them the right way to order and eat ramen and helpful customs and phrases to use at ramen shops. Tokyo has over 10,000 ramen shops.
Users plug in their location in Japan and Ramen Beast recommends ramen shops in the area, with reviews, photos and other information.
As of Friday midday, the first "Locals" episode registered 4,500 views. Travel + Leisure has about 3.7 million followers on its Instagram account.
“Locals” will release a new short-form video each month.
The monthly Travel + Leisure claims to a global reach of more than 16 million.
