Magazines, Newspapers Push Cyber-Monday Subscription Deals

Magazine and newspaper companies are taking advantage of the Cyber Monday shopping frenzy to get subscription deals in front of consumers.

As publishers struggle to compete with the duopoly of Google and Facebook for digital advertising dollars, digital subscription revenue is proving to be an important revenue generator.

Amazon has Cyber Monday magazine deals starting from $5 for subscriptions to various publications, including Meredith Corp., Condé Nast, Trusted Media Brands, Hearst and Bonnier.

For $5, consumers can get subscriptions to magazines such as Reader’s Digest, The Family Handyman, Allrecipes, Better Homes & Gardens, Taste of Home, Family Circle, Martha Stewart Living, Parents, Allure and Brides.

However, $5 will get you everything from an annual subscription of 10 issues from Bon Appétit to three months (12 issues) from The New Yorker.

Other publications like Women’s Health, Cosmopolitan, Popular Mechanics, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Esquire, Marie Claire, Popular Science, Saveur and Real Simple are all under $10, while Sports Illustrated and Entertainment Weekly are $20 and over.

As for newspapers, The Washington Post has an impressive Cyber Monday deal: 50% off its annual digital subscriptions, plus a free water bottle with the newspaper’s tagline “Democracy Dies in Darkness” inscribed on it.

The Wall Street Journal is promoting $1 for a two-month digital subscription, while the Los Angeles Times has a deal for six months of digital access for $1.
