Amazon celebrated Giving Tuesday by creating a way for customers to donate a toy to a child by using its voice assistant Alexa.
Owners of Alexa-enabled devices can say “Alexa, donate to Toys for Tots” and they are presented with a range of gifts for children from the Toys for Tots charity list.
After the order is confirmed by the customer, Amazon ships it to Toys for Tots. The program is the first in which customers can donate an item to charity using Alexa, though Amazon has had options to make money donations to a range of charities by using Alexa.
“Alexa provides an easy way to give back this holiday season enabling customers to donate an item to Toys for Tots in less than 60 seconds,” stated Chuck Moore, vice president of Alexa Shopping. “This time of year is made brighter by the generosity of others.”
The program is scheduled to run until the end of the year and Amazon is matching donations toy for toy.
