Future Publishing Claims No. 1 Spot Among Tech News Media

An earlier version of this story reported that consumer tech, gaming and music media platform Future Publishing Ltd. had risen to the No. 1 spot in the tech news category in the U.S. and U.K. marketplaces in Comscore's October 2018 report.

In fact, for October's Comscore numbers, CNET is the No. 1 publisher, per tech news rankings. Future plc determined its new audience numbers by combining the total unduplicated audiences as reported by Comscore Media Metrix (October 2018) for Future plc and Purch, which was acquired by Future in August 2018.

Future plc’s properties, which include TechRadar and Tom’s Guide, recorded 63.9 million unique visitors during the month of October, up 286% from October 2017. It is ranked top among 162 technology media companies.

“Our focus has been, and will remain, on connecting advertisers with in-market shoppers across a range of products and passions,” Anthony Losanno, Chief Revenue Officer, Future plc, told Publishers Daily. “We'll leverage these growing audiences to offer marketers even more of the custom targeting that has proven incredibly effective in driving both brand engagement and sales.”

The company has been aggressively expanding into the U.S marketplace through investment in its technology, editorial content and customer service.

Future plc’s growth was due, in part, to its recent acquisition of Purch for around $132 million in September. The deal included the titles Purch, Tom’s Guide, Tom’s Hardware, TopTenReviews, ShopSavvy, Live Science and Space.com.

Future plc also acquired Purch’s yield optimization platform, RAMP, and its licensing business.

Also among the top 10 in the tech news category are The Verge and Gizmodo.

Losanno said the ranking “puts our brand at the top of the list for marketers researching new publisher partners that can offer scale, brand-safe environments and quality content that aligns with their marketing messages.”
