The cyberattack on the Marriott hotel chain that collected personal details of about 500 million guests was part of a Chinese intelligence-gathering effort, according to two people briefed on the
investigation, reports
The New York Times. Geng Shuang, a spokesman for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, denied any knowledge of the Marriott hacking. The Marriott database contains
credit card information and passport data.
