Magazines Make It Six, Ad Demand Expands In July

Ad pages for July 2005 totaled 16,236--up 3.1 percent from the same month last year, the Publishers Information Bureau (PIB) announced on Monday. The increase marked the sixth consecutive month that the pages have shown positive movement.

Hair products and accessories, concessions and snacks, and personal hygiene products chiefly drove the increase.

Total magazine rate-card-reported advertising revenue for July also increased by 10.1 percent when compared to last July, edging out at $1,513,895,866.

"It's six months in a row, so the trend continues for a healthier ad climate for magazines," said Howard Polskin, vice president for communications with the Magazine Publishers of America (MPA).

PIB revenue also increased this month, finishing out at $12,301,544,784--up 9.4 percent from the same time period in 2004--with ad pages themselves measuring 130,732, a 1.9 percent gain.
