Santa Wants An Audi In Holiday Ad

Audi of America is debuting a four-minute holiday-themed video that tells the story of how even Santa himself has holiday wishes.

“New Santa,” featuring the 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback, is available for viewing online only on the Audi USA YouTube channel, as well as Audi social, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

It was created by M/H VCCP and directed by Craig Gillespie of “I, Tonya.” The film was shot on location in Prague with real reindeer.

The spot shows Santa getting inspired to lose a few pounds after catching a glimpse of the Audi sports car. During his year-long makeover, he ends up transforming everything from his appearance to his sleigh, which he ultimately trades for a 2019 Audi RS 5 Sportback, which is newly available in the U.S. market.

“Each year, we try to find creative ways to celebrate the holiday season,”  says Loren Angelo, vice president, marketing, Audi of America. “The 2019 RS 5 Sportback is the epitome of aspiration -- an everyday supercar that inspires even the most classic of characters to modernize and become a new version of himself.”

The choice to use a longer video was dictated by the story, he says.

“We didn’t have a specific length in mind for the video,” Angelo tells Marketing Daily. “Instead, we set out to make a film about Santa's transformation and allowed time to show the progression and journey. Since the spot was online only, we had room, which resulted in a 4-minute video.”

Audi releases a holiday spot every year. In 2018, the two-minute long “Parking Lot” showed two Audi drivers competing for a coveted parking spot at a holiday-shopper-packed store.
